Hello to my readers! Whether you’ve been on this writing journey with me since Loyal To One, which was my first release;or you just started reading my work, I want to share a little about my life with you all.
I was born in Providence, Rhode Island but moved to Detroit, MI at 1 year old and was raised in the heart of the city. I was adopted by my great aunt and uncle and they instilled morals, respect, education and religion in me.
I started writing short poems and short stories in middle school and had a poem published when I was in 8th grade. Reading and writing has always been a passion of mine and my English teachers always knew that. I would read ahead of the class and start on the next book way before I was supposed to. I excelled at writing and English so much, I was placed in AP English and African American Literature in my senior year of high school.
When I went off to college, my major was journalism but my interests changed to wanting to help children in the system so I switched my major to social work. I went to school for 2 years before deciding that it wasn’t for me at the time, and I decided to enlist in the United States Army. In the Army, I went to South Korea for a year before having my child. I got off on active duty and went to the reserves and deployed to Afghanistan for 9 months. While serving in Afghanistan, I wrote a lot more to pass the time. I decided to send some of my work to my publisher, Porscha Sterling, and the rest was history.
My first book was published with Royalty Publishing House in October of 2015 and I have been on this journey ever since. I have a 3 year old son and currently reside in Columbus, Ohio. I still serve in the Army Reserves, I work for the government on the civilian side, I’m taking college courses part time and I continue to write books.
